• Unemployment 9.7% 

 

  •  8.4 million jobs lost in the recession since 2007.

 

  • Also there was a large decline in the number of  unemployed people seeking  new jobs.  This number rose to 1.1 million in January. Last year this number was 734,000

 

  • According to Reuters – “U.S. employers unexpectedly cut 20,000 jobs in January, but the unemployment rate suprisingly fell to a five month low of 9.7%, according to a goverment report on Friday that hinted at some market improvment starting to take root.”
